UNCCD Reporting Process
Since the adoption of the 10-year Strategy in 2007, Parties to the United Nation Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) have been reporting on the implementation of the Convention at various levels. Reporting is meant to assists Parties in developing and improving their monitoring systems at national level, but also allows them to share their knowledge and experiences with other stakeholders discussing progress made during intersessional sessions of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC).
At the 13th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) in September 2017, Parties are expected to adopt a strategic framework, because the current Strategy has come to an end. The secretariat, in collaboration with the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD, is developing reporting tools that comply with future requirements aligned to the future strategic framework. The reporting process is scheduled to start immediately after COP 13.
The Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS) portal is an essential reporting tool that helps Parties to the UNCCD submit their reports. The PRAIS portal It is constantly updated and will continue facilitating future UNCCD reporting processes. Other reporting tools, such as templates and manuals, are available to assist Parties in submitting their reports in a timely manner.
PRAIS portal updates
The PRAIS portal is currently used by more than 100 countries to report on progress made towards achieving land degradation neutrality (LDN), in the context of the Programme implemented by the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD called the Land Degradation Neutrality Target Setting Programme (LDN TSP).
Future Strategic Framework
A new strategic framework is expected to see the light at COP 13 in Ordos, China in September 2017. Once this strategy is adopted, Parties will have the opportunity to report on different aspects relating to desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD).
