The Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC)
The CRIC was established by decision 1/COP 5, as subsidiary body to the COP to assist it in regularly reviewing the implementation of the Convention.
Parties at COP 9 adopted new Terms of Reference of the CRIC and decided that the CRIC will become a standing subsidiary body of the COP.
According to its Terms of Reference, the CRIC shall assist the COP in the review of the implementation of the Convention under the authority and guidance of the COP and as an integral part of the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System.
At COP12, Parties decided on making optional the next reporting exercise in the light of the need to finalize the methodological approach to reporting, until revised reporting tools have been made available to Parties. Therefore, the special session of the CRIC taking place by March 2017 will include discussions on 2014-2015 optional reporting exercise. Also Parties have decided that the intersessional session of the CRIC that will take place after January 2018 will focus on reviewing the reporting and national voluntary Land Degradation Neutrality target-setting exercise.
